Dear HKIIE Fellow Members,
In pursuance of our vision and objectives, the HKIIE had a good session of 2008/2010.
Registered Professional Engineering Manager (R.P.E.M.)
2009 was a momentous year for HKIIE members with the launch of the registration for the R.P.E.M. on 12 September 2009, which is under the administration of the Engineering Managers’ Registration Council (EMRC). I feel privileged to have been so closely engaged with this most auspicious event.
Graduate Membership (Grad HKIIE)
As we are aware of the importance of recruiting youngsters to join the profession, class of Graduate members (Grad HKIIE) has been created.
Collaboration
As part of our continuing efforts to promote professional sustainability, we have closely related our friendship and connection with Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT)(HK Centre), the Institute of Hong Kong Architectural Technologists (HKAT), the Institute of Clerks of Works & Construction Inspectors (ICWCI) (HK Branch), the Hong Kong Institute of Clerks of Works (HKICW) and the Council of Professional Associations (COPA) so as to gain wider exposure to wide variety of engineering and technology issues.
Networking
Building up a good network with relevant bodies outside Hong Kong is one of the important tasks. We sent representatives to visit professional organizations in Guangzhou, as well as educational institutions with the help of Guangzhou Association of Science and Technology (GZAST). With the support of Guangzhou Association of Engineers (GAE), we were able to further develop our network with relevant professional, educational and PRC governmental organizations and bodies.
Programme Accreditation
In April 2009, we have accepted Bulacan State University Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering as the recognized engineering degree leading to the corporate membership of the Institution. Besides, we have accredited the following programmes, in January 2010, which are organized by the Hong Kong College of Technology:
- Diploma in Professional Studies (Electrical)
- Higher Diploma in Electrical & Electronics Engineering
- BSc (Hons) Facilities Management (conferred by the University of Central Lancashire, UK)
- BSc (Hons) Construction Project Management (conferred by the University of Central Lancashire, UK)
- BEng (Hons) Electronics & Electrical Engineering (conferred by the University of Sunderland, UK
The above achievements would not have been possible without the support of our members and Council Members. My heartfelt thanks go to my colleagues in the Council for their contributions to HKIIE and EMRC.
Honorary Fellowship
In appreciation of the distinguished services to the Institution, Messrs. Tom Law, (Past Chairman) and Albert Tam (Chairman) have been approved by the Council and admitted to the class of Honorary Fellow (Hon.FHKIIE).
Way Forward
Looking ahead, we have no doubt that HKIIE has a vast scope and opportunity for development. We need members’ sustainable support so that we can keep developing and achieve our mission effectively. I should like to take this opportunity to encourage all members to keep supporting the meaningful work of HKIIE so that we may realize its potentials. Thank you.
